Team Georgia: Myaskovsky’s Cello Sonata No. 1

I’m team USA all the way but wow what a beautiful performance, incredible choreography and gorgeous music choice from Diana Davis & Gleb Smolkin of Team Georgia!

I swear I saw this last night on the Olympics but it hasn’t been posted online yet so I found this performance from a few months ago.

They are dancing to Myaskovsky’s Cello Sonata No. 1 in D Major. Very moving piece it actually made me cry a few times.. 🙂

Now Booking Christmas & Holiday Parties!

I’m excited to have so much Christmas and holiday cello music to play for the upcoming season!

The first week of December is pretty full already so contact me soon for your holiday parties. I’ve performed at family gatherings, corporate events, restaurants, wineries.. even the airport!

I used to play every year at an older couple’s home during the holiday season. They had four generations visiting them every December and it was such a joyful night to be a part of. Music, food, family, warmth.. what more can you ask?

Pets & the Cello!

Every pet I’ve ever had has always been super suspicious of my cello at first. They act scared and either run away or bark at it.. I think to them it seems like this creature that has suddenly come to life.. and this creature is very very loud!!

Our new dog Smokey was the same way when we got him last year. He barked, approached the cello, ran away, barked at it from around the corner, barked at it from behind the couch.. it lasted for about 10 minutes and now listening to me play is one of his favorite hobbies!

He loves laying down, sleeping, or playing with his toys while I play.. but if I start packing my bags and buckling the case all the way he identifies that as a time that i’m leaving.. which means a lot of whining and crying.. why can’t you stay here ALL DAY and play JUST FOR MEEEE!!!

Sorry Smokey I have to leave sometimes lol!!

September concert!

I’m excited to be playing again with the Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra on Saturday Sept. 6th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield, MN at 7pm!

This is part of Northfields Jesse James Days and is going to be really fun Cowboy themed music.

Shenandoah for 4 cellos

This past season with Bows, Strings & Contentment Orchestra I had the opportunity to arrange the American folk song, Shenandoah, for 4 cellos, 1 bass, and a singer.

In college I used the software program Sibelius to make changes and new arrangements for orchestra pieces. That was a fun and challenging project! Especially because the version I had was pretty clunky and only worked about 75% of the time.. Or maybe I was only doing it right 75% of the time lol..

I found out about MuseScore a while back and finally got the opportunity download it and check it out. It’s such an intuitive program and has been super easy to use so far! I really like how it’s turned out.

I’m planning on recording a 4 cello version and uploading it to my Youtube channel soon. I’ll also post a link to download the 4 cello score and parts as well.

In the meantime, we are performing live this Sunday June 15th at the Grand in Northfield at 7pm! Come see us!

Dvorak – American Quartet, Mvt I

So excited to be playing this piece at the Bows Strings and Contentment Orchestra’s concert Sunday June 15th at The Grand Theatre in Northfield, MN!

Dvorak wrote this in 1893 while visiting Spillville, Iowa, about 3 hours away from where I live. Such a gorgeous piece.. when you read the history of his time in the US it really adds to the beauty 🙂

Awesome App for Practicing!

Just found out about this awesome app called Tomplay that let’s you play along with real musicians. Lately I’ve been practicing with Youtube videos or tracks on Apple Classical. I’ll put my headphones in and play lightly, trying to listen to my part of the piece as well as everyone else. It’s an okay strategy but when a friend told me about this app, I was like wow this is what I needed all along!

You can mute your part, raise or lower other parts, slow them down, add a metronome, etc. It’s pretty genius and the best part is that it’s all real musicians playing, not some awful sounding MIDI or computer generated sound.

Hello Minnesota!

Wow what a crazy journey this has been! I’ve been in MN almost 2 years.. I moved here from California sight unseen and… I really like it!!

My cello did not like the move at all, especially driving 26 hours in the middle of winter. Fortunately I found a great string shop in Minneapolis, House of Note, to take care of my baby. My cello and bow needed some very important repairs and they did a great job! They even helped fix my case so I didn’t need to buy a new one.

I’m excited to be a part of the musical community here in Southern Minnesota! I’ve been performing in various orchestras and symphonies including the Owatonna Symphony Orchestra, the Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra, and Northfield’s Bows, Strings, and Contentment Orchestra.

Looking forward to more performances and teaching students the magic of music through the cello!
